One of the favorite destinations of this young lady is Portugal, where she feels at home. When she buys the apartment in one 50-year-old Sofia apartment building, she is already aware of what she wants her apartment to look like. Together with the designer Milena Atanasova they quickly specify both vision and interior function. There are no major changes to the initial construction distribution. It perfectly suits not only single habitation at the moment but also offers comfort for one possible future family. An entrance hall, a separate kitchen, a small transitional living room with bedroom and another room provide enough comfort. Plus a terrace looking to a lovely inner courtyard, hanging out with those everlasting laundry space of our own country, just like those in Italy, Spain and Portugal.
The only construction intervention taken during the repair is in the bathroom, being too small, as is usually the case in old homes. But with an empty cavity hidden behind a barrier, which the designer boldly opens, it gets the strange irregular shape of the wet room. This space astonishes today with cunning distribution – the former bathroom is completely renovated with sink and toilet, and behind a glass partition there are placed not one but two modern shower heads in purple tones in a small space with strange geometry. The floor is also violet and the walls are tiled with cheerful patterns. Bright color combinations flow from every corner of the apartment – pink, blue, yellow and a lot of turquoise. The inspiration comes from the famous typical hand-painted pottery that can be seen in Portugal everywhere – on the altars of the churches and facades of the houses, the walls and the floor. This apartment also features the drawings made by our authors. We see it in a tile on the floor and in the furniture corps motives. They are made by Milena Atanasova’s individual project in our famous ADARA factory – solid wood, with slightly aged appearance. Wardrobes, dressers, tall cabinets, low tables – all of a series made specifically for this home. Same way tailored made is the sofa with seats and back of bright fabrics, found in our market after a hard research. All this very cheerful presence of different colors stands out even more clearly on the pure white background of the walls. White and size intact in height is the ceiling from which hang attractive lamps – some brought from Istanbul, others taken out from grandmother’s heritage.
Inside the interior there are no typical traces that sometimes remain overlooked in one modern interior like plasterboard, plastics, clichés in furniture and accessories. The apartment sounds really exotic, different, enticing.
Inside the kitchen is deliberately preferred the sound of an old house – with open appliances, with the same bleached cabinets and a … striped drapery under the sink! Around the table are arranged various chairs, some of which real vintage and again her grandmother’s heritage. The spirit is relaxing, inviting to rest and peace among all the small objects that are housed here from all over the world. And all embraced by the splendor color glory reminding to that unique Portuguese azhulezhu style.
